Why I Built Pod-Sourcing: Custom Gifts Without the Five-Figure Minimum
It Started With an Order We Had to Turn Down

A wedding planner once asked me for 200 custom mugs as favors for her client's reception. Two hundred. Not two hundred thousand. She had a date, a color palette, and a design her couple had already approved.
I took it to three suppliers. Every single one gave me the same answer, phrased a little differently: minimum 500, minimum 1,000, we don't run the line for less than a container.
She didn't place a smaller order somewhere else. She didn't place an order at all. She bought plain mugs and a box of stickers.
That story isn't unusual. It's the default outcome of how this industry is built — and it's the reason I started Pod-Sourcing.
The Industry Is Built for the Biggest Buyer in the Room

Custom manufacturing has spent decades optimizing for the wrong customer.
It was designed around container loads, freight forwarders, and trading companies that buy in six figures and negotiate in quarters. Everything below that line is treated as noise. If you're a small business, an event planner, a school, a brand testing a product, or simply someone with 150 gifts to hand out — you are, structurally, not the customer.
Three walls stand between a small buyer and a finished custom product.
The MOQ Wall
Minimum order quantities exist because setting up a print run costs money. Fair enough. But factories set that minimum at the batch size that's convenient for them, not at the batch size that's useful for you. So a 60-person team-building order becomes a request to buy 500, or it becomes nothing.
The Freight Wall
This is the one that quietly kills small orders. Shipping is priced in ways that punish exactly the people who can least absorb it. A small parcel of custom gifts can arrive with a freight bill approaching the cost of the goods. Buyers see the product price, feel good about it, then see the shipping line at checkout and close the tab.
The Blind Wall
For most of this industry's history, you approved a design as a flat artwork file and hoped for the best. You found out what the print actually looked like on the actual product, in the actual color, weeks later — on a container, after you'd already paid. If it was wrong, that was a conversation, not a refund.
Every one of these walls is a business model decision. Which means every one of them can be rebuilt.
What We Decided to Build Instead

Pod-Sourcing is a B2B sourcing and custom-printing partner. We ship worldwide, from China, direct to your door — and we rebuilt the three walls from the ground up.
1. MOQ of One — and We Mean One
Not "one carton." Not "one colorway, 500 pieces." One piece.
You can order a single custom sample, approve it in your hands, and only then place the real order. That's possible because our supply chain is genuinely flexible: we work factory-direct with production that can be switched on for a small run without a setup cost that has to be amortized across hundreds of units. The flexibility isn't a policy we adopted — it's the asset we built the company on.
And the pricing rewards you for scaling, instead of punishing you for starting small. Price breaks land at 10, 100, 1,000 and 10,000 pieces, so the per-unit cost falls in steps you can actually plan a business around. Start with a sample. Come back with a wedding. Come back again with a wholesale program.
2. Freight That Gets Cheaper as You Scale
This is the part I'm proudest of, and it's the part most buyers don't expect.
Shipping a single piece is expensive. Shipping 2,000 pieces is not 2,000 times as expensive — not remotely. Freight is dominated by fixed costs: the parcel, the handling, the customs clearance, the last mile. Once you're paying those, the marginal cost of each additional unit is small.
So we quote live, and the number drops as a function of quantity. Two hundred wedding favors do not ship for two hundred times the price of one. And because we can consolidate, mixed products ship together in a single parcel — your tote bags, mugs and tumblers don't each buy their own airfreight. They ride together and split one freight bill.
We quote across real commercial lines — registered mail, value express, line saver, and premium express carriers like DHL, FedEx and UPS — so you're choosing between documented options, not a mystery rate. If customs duty is a headache you'd rather not have, you can choose DDP and pay the tax up front, so nothing unusual shows up at your customer's door.
3. You See the Finished Product Before You Pay for It
The blind wall is gone.
When you customize a product with us, you don't upload a file and hope. You open the designer, pick your product, pick the print template, pick the color, and drag your design onto a live preview of the actual product — scaling it, positioning it, seeing exactly where it lands on the print area of the specific color you chose. What you see on screen is what the factory is being told to make.
From there, our team renders the production mockup from the same files you approved, and production runs against that. Under the hood that means real decoration methods — heat transfer, UV printing, embroidery, laser engraving, dye-sublimation — matched to your product and artwork, not one process forced onto everything.
You approve a picture of your product. We produce that picture. That's the whole idea.
Who This Is For

We built this for the buyers who get told "no" everywhere else:
- Weddings — favors for 80 guests, not 500
- Graduations — a class year, a school, a department
- Teacher's Day and Nurse's Day — appreciation gifts bought in human-sized batches, on a real budget
- Corporate team building — branded gear for the team you actually have
- Gift shops, event planners and resellers — buying custom product to sell on, in quantities that make sense for your shelf and your cash flow
If you've ever wanted custom-printed products with your own design on them — for an event, a team, a brand, or a business you're just starting — you are exactly who we're built for.
What We Are Not
We're not a marketplace, and we're not a dropshipping catalogue with your logo pasted on it.
We're a sourcing partner. We only produce and fulfill. You keep your design, your customer, and your brand — we handle the manufacturing, the quality control and the delivery, and we stay behind the scenes where a supplier belongs.
Let's Make Something
Here's what it costs you to find out:
- A sample with no minimum — one piece, so you can hold it before you commit
- A free design consultation — send us what you have, even if it's rough
- A quote within 24 hours — with shipping, at the quantity you actually need
Send us your design. Tell us how many you need — whether that's one or ten thousand. We'll tell you what it costs to put it in your customers' hands.
That's the business I wanted to build. I'd love to build it with you.
